Election Commission to Kick Off EVM & VVPAT Verification on November 12
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has shifted into high gear across Punjab, launching comprehensive groundwork for the upcoming 2027 Punjab Legislative Assembly elections. In a strategic coordination drive held in Chandigarh, senior ECI delegates and technical engineering specialists from Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) conducted an extensive administrative review to assess operational readiness, voting machine diagnostics, and inter-agency logistics. According to an official directive from the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Punjab, the mandatory First-Level Checking (FLC) of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs) will officially commence across administrative districts on November 12, 2026, establishing a transparent foundation for the state's democratic exercise.
BEL Engineers Train Poll Officials on EVM-VVPAT First-Level Checking Protocols
To ensure procedural compliance and machine integrity ahead of the field rollout, specialized technical workshops were organized for election personnel:
Comprehensive Technical Briefing: Expert engineers from public-sector manufacturer Bharat Electronics Limited delivered operational briefings detailing the diagnostic checks, seal verifications, and electronic testing required for voting equipment.
Hands-on Simulation & Trouble-Shooting: District Election Officers (DEOs), Additional District Election Officers, FLC Nodal Officers, and Master Trainers completed hands-on simulation modules to evaluate real-time mock voting, diagnostic scanning, and machine handling.
Multi-Tier District Oversight: The FLC process starting November 12 will take place under direct administrative supervision, following established statutory guidelines in designated district warehouses with complete transparency and political party representation.
High-Level Inter-Agency Review to Guarantee Free, Fair, and Transparent Polls
Following the technical FLC workshop, the ECI delegation convened an operational strategy meeting with senior regional and national law enforcement leadership:
Strategic Multi-Agency Coordination: A high-powered ECI delegation comprising senior Deputy Election Commissioners and Directors General held extensive discussions with Punjab's Chief Electoral Officer, the State Police Nodal Officer, and key central and state enforcement departments.
Tightening Security Frameworks: The commission reviewed deployment frameworks, area-domination plans, and the active monitoring of inter-state borders to prevent illegal inducements and maintain law and order across sensitive constituencies.
Institutional Commitment to Transparency: The ECI instructed state and central enforcement bodies to align standard operating procedures, mandating continuous inter-departmental synergy to execute the upcoming Assembly elections in a completely peaceful, unbiased, and transparent atmosphere.
