Air travelers relying on the newly operational route via Halwara International Airport—located roughly 35 kilometers from Ludhiana city—are facing severe disruptions and mounting frustration. On Saturday, scheduled flight operations between Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport and Halwara were abruptly cancelled yet again. This marked the third cancellation within a span of just six days, following similar disruptions on September 7 and September 9. The recurring cancellations have left approximately 102 passengers stranded, triggering widespread anger among local travelers, families traveling with young children, and professionals attempting to maintain tight transit schedules.

Severe Impact on International Travelers and Families

The timing and frequency of the cancellations have wreaked havoc on travel itineraries, particularly for passengers with onward journeys. Out of the 102 affected individuals, approximately 65 passengers were scheduled to catch connecting international flights out of New Delhi. Families arriving at the Halwara terminal with heavy luggage and small children were met with disappointment, forcing many to either reschedule their journeys entirely or scramble for alternative transit options. Stranded passengers reported losing valuable time and facing a severe financial burden as they were compelled to hire expensive road taxis to cover the distance to Delhi in time for their connecting flights, with reports of local cab drivers exploiting the crisis by demanding exorbitant fares.

The morning flight originating from Delhi is designed to turn around and depart from Halwara for Delhi in the afternoon, meaning any disruption instantly paralyzes both legs of the journey. With frequent cancellations jeopardizing international connections and making it virtually impossible to rely on the airport for critical travel plans, frustrated passengers and local stakeholders have strongly demanded that aviation authorities intervene. Travelers are calling for strict operational accountability, better technical reliability, and guaranteed regular flight schedules to prevent Halwara Airport from losing the confidence of the commuting public.
