With court proceedings repeatedly delayed due to the absence of key police witnesses, the judiciary has ordered law enforcement authorities to arrest and produce the defaulting personnel by the next scheduled hearing.
Strict Judicial Action After Repeated Summons Ignored by Police Personnel
The latest courtroom development highlights growing judicial impatience with laxity among investigating and witnessing officers. During the proceedings, state counsels informed the bench that multiple formal summons had previously been dispatched to the officers, directing them to testify regarding the gang-related attack. Despite repeated directives, the officers failed to present themselves. Consequently, the court ordered non-bailable warrants for witness Gurkirat Singh, ASI Sukhpal Singh, ASI Jaspal Singh, ASI Sewa Singh, and SI Malkit Singh, directing concerned authorities to execute the arrests and ensure their presence in court on the upcoming hearing date slated for September 17. Additionally, the court issued a stern warning to the court clerk (Ahlmad) for administrative oversight, reminding staff of strict disciplinary consequences under Section 36 of the Punjab Courts Act.

The ongoing trial traces back to a chilling incident on the night of April 13, 2018, which sent shockwaves through the Punjabi entertainment industry. Parmish Verma was returning home to Mohali alongside his friend Kulwant Chahal after attending a promotional event at Elante Mall in Chandigarh. As their vehicle approached Sector 91, armed assailants opened fire, injuring the singer. Just a day after the assault, notorious gangster Dilpreet Singh Baba brazenly took to social media to claim responsibility for the attack while issuing open extortion threats. Subsequent police investigations revealed that the shooting was executed to intimidate the artist after extortion demands were ignored, ultimately leading to the arrest of Dilpreet Baba and several of his criminal associates.
