AAP MP Malvinder Singh Kang Slams GMADA Over Selective Demolitions in Saini Majra, Demands Equal Action Against Illegal Structures

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) administration in Punjab faced unexpected scrutiny from within its own ranks when Anandpur Sahib MP Malvinder Singh Kang openly criticized the demolition operations executed by the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) in Saini Majra. Visiting the village to address mounting grievances from local residents who alleged biased enforcement, the parliamentarian called for absolute transparency and fair treatment for underprivileged shopkeepers.
Confronting Officials Over Alleged Selective Action
MP Malvinder Singh Kang arrived at Saini Majra to investigate complaints regarding the dismantling of commercial structures. While acknowledging that officials cited High Court directives to justify the anti-encroachment drive, Kang questioned the fairness of the execution. Local residents had voiced intense frustration, accusing authorities of selective targeting.
Taking a firm stance against perceived administrative bias, Kang stated that he personally spoke with the head of GMADA over the phone late at night to demand accountability. He emphasized that he would report the situation directly to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, noting that the public harbors widespread grievances regarding GMADA's operational methods.
"Demolish All Illegal Shops or None"
Addressing the gathered residents and accompanying officials, Kang laid down a clear principle regarding urban planning and legal enforcement. He asserted that while unlawful constructions must be addressed under the law, rules cannot be applied selectively.
"If a construction is illegal, action should be taken, but the rules should be the same for everyone. It cannot be that shops owned by poor people and daily wage laborers are targeted while those owned by influential people are left untouched," Kang remarked. He added that authorities must either demolish all unauthorized structures equally or transparently explain why certain establishments are spared.
Allegations of Corruption and Call for a Humane Approach
Beyond concerns of selective targeting, Kang highlighted serious public allegations leveled against civic officials. He noted that residents accused local GMADA personnel of accepting illicit payments in exchange for sparing specific commercial properties from demolition.
Stressing the socio-economic reality of small business owners who struggle daily to feed their families, the AAP MP urged the administration to adopt a humane perspective. He concluded that transparency, compassion, and uniform adherence to the law are essential to prevent harassment of the working class and restore public trust in urban regulatory bodies.
