Actor and political commentator Prakash Raj recently posted a candid photo with comedian Kunal Kamra, who has been at the center of controversy after receiving threats for his parody video targeting Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde.

On April 11, Prakash Raj shared a cheerful image on social media platform X, showing him alongside Kamra. His humorous caption read: “Tamil Nadu kaise pahunchneka bhai ..?? Simple... Auto mein” [How to reach Tamil Nadu, brother? Simple... by auto rickshaw]. The joke referred to a viral audio in which a Shiv Sena worker, allegedly threatening Kamra, is heard asking how he would reach Tamil Nadu.

Background of the Viral Audio

The viral call includes abusive language and threats of violence, allegedly referring to the vandalism of the Habitat studio where Kamra recorded his video. Kamra, however, remained calm during the call and responded with confidence, inviting the caller to Tamil Nadu. His bold replies turned the conversation into an online meme.

Reason Behind the Controversy

The controversy began with Kamra’s parody of a song from the 1997 film Dil Toh Pagal Hai, aimed at mocking Eknath Shinde. This led to backlash from Shiv Sena supporters. The Habitat studio was vandalized, and parts of it were later demolished by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Kamra defended his video in a public statement, emphasizing his right to satire: “Your inability to take a joke at the expense of a powerful public figure does not change the nature of my right.”

Legal Action and Support

On March 24, Mumbai Police registered an FIR against Kamra after a complaint from Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel. Kamra has since received two summonses for questioning.

Despite the legal and political pressure, the viral image shared by Prakash Raj represents a show of support and unity. It highlights the ongoing debate around satire, political criticism, and freedom of expression in India.
