Pope Francis is worried about Italy’s dwindling population as pets take the place of children in homes.

Pope Francis has expressed concern over the dwindling population in the European country of Italy.

He warned that only the rich could afford to have children. In many homes, pet dogs are now taking the place of children. There were other people on the stage with the Pope and they said that we will appeal to have more children.

Italy is one of the countries with the lowest population growth rate in Europe. In 2022, the birth rate in Italy has come down to 4 lakhs for the first time. Italy’s birth rate has declined for the 14th year in a row.

Pope Francis said that there are many reasons for the decline in the birth rate. This includes factors such as finding a permanent job, rising house rents and low wages. Now pet dogs have started appearing in homes instead of children. I was asked by a lady to bless her child and when the lady opened the bag in front of me there was a small dog in it.

Pope Francis’ concern is also justified. Due to the ever-decreasing birth rate, there are fears that Italy will lose a fifth of its population by 2050. Poverty can also increase here due to less population.

Italy’s Economy Minister Giancarlo Gioganti said that Italy’s GDP could fall by 18 percent by 2042 due to the dwindling population.
