The BRICS summit is being organized in the Russian city of Kazan. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached Kazan to participate in this summit. PM Modi met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan. Amid rising tensions between Iran and Israel, Pezeshkian stressed the need for peace in West Asia and emphasized India’s role in reducing the conflict due to its good relations with all parties.
This is the first meeting between Pezeshkian, who became the President of Iran after winning the election, and PM Modi. The two leaders discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in key areas including the Chabahar port and the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC).

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that PM Modi and Iranian President Pezeshkian had a “fruitful discussion”. Misri said, “The two leaders also discussed the situation in West Asia. Prime Minister Modi expressed deep concern over the escalating conflict and reiterated India’s call for the safety of civilians. He stressed the need for dialogue and diplomacy to reduce tensions.”

The Foreign Secretary said President Pezeshkian emphasized the need for peace and harmony in the region and said India can play a key role in reducing conflict due to its good relations with all concerned parties.
