Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi made his first visit to Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday since the central government revoked the region's special status (Article 370) in 2019. Addressing a large public rally, Modi launched a scathing attack on Pakistan, accusing it of attempting to instigate riots and fuel unrest in the Valley in the past, specifically referencing a past incident in Pahalgam.

"They (referring to elements in Pakistan and their supporters) wanted to spark riots here... they made many attempts," Modi stated, emphasizing how some forces had tried to set Kashmir "on fire." He highlighted the sacrifices made by security personnel to maintain peace, particularly recalling an incident where terrorists targeted innocent Amarnath Yatra pilgrims in Pahalgam, and how locals had strongly condemned it.

Modi painted a picture of a "new Jammu and Kashmir," contrasting the current era of development and peace with the past decades of turmoil. He asserted that since the removal of Article 370, the region is "breathing freely" and that development projects worth over Rs 6,400 crore were launched during his visit, focusing on sectors like tourism, agriculture, and infrastructure.

The Prime Minister credited the changes for a significant drop in terrorism and the complete disappearance of stone-pelting incidents. He pointed to the successful G20 meeting held in Srinagar last year as a testament to the improved situation.

Looking ahead, Modi assured the people that assembly elections would be held soon in Jammu and Kashmir and that the process for restoring statehood is also underway. He urged the youth to focus on the future, stating that Kashmir is now a place of opportunity, not disruption. "The world is witnessing a new Jammu and Kashmir," he declared, praising the enthusiasm of the Kashmiri people for development.
