Bajinder Singh, a prominent pastor from Jalandhar in Punjab, has been alleged to have sexually assaulted a woman and subsequently has been charged for sexual harrassment. He, however, refuted the claims saying that the girl approached him for healing prayer as she was possessed by an evil spirit.
The complaint states that the woman and her family started going to this church in October 2017. Singh, well known for the viral video ‘Mera Yeshu Yeshu’, reportedly took her mobile number and began texting. In her interviews with the police, she stated that she was scared of the pastor and was unable to tell her parents about the sexual abuse.
Since 2022, she also alleged that Singh had started to inappropriately touch and hug her during church services on Sundays, making her sit alone in the church.
The complainant said to the police, “I met him on the phone, he had no right to partake in any lewd or indecent interactions. I tried informing him that his behavior was wrong. When I attended his sermons in the year 2022, I started seeing him on Sundays and I noticed him touching me in ways I did not want him to touch me when I was alone in the cabin and I remember every moment.”
According to the police, a case has been lodged against him under sections 354 A (sexual harassment), 354 D (stalking), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Bikramjit Singh, Kapurthala city police station house officer (SHO), said, “We are cross checking and verifying the allegations levelled by the woman.” He also provided that the accused is still not in custody. The Hindustan Times notes that Singh does possess a social media following, thus, his videos are frequently encountered on Instagram Reels and Youtube Shorts. Chunky Pandey and Aditya Pancholi, among other famed personalities, have come forth to rally behind him in the past few weeks.
As additional evidence for this claim, Bajinder Singh does not shy away from saying that he single handedly treats all forms of ailments. In one of his most infamous videos, Singh boasts having treated a speech anomaly in a girl who was mute her whole life because, in his words, she ‘always had the ability to speak’ but never did.
Bajinder is from Haryana but now lives in New Chandigarh. He refers to himself as a preacher of the Christian religion since 2012 and claims to have converted to Christianity. In addition to claiming he “cured” a range of diseases and paralysis through prayers offered at his church, he also claimed to have practiced “miracle healing”.
