Parvathy Thiruvothu, widely regarded for her impactful performances in Indian cinema, has earned a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the Critics’ Choice Awards 2025 for her role in the Malayalam film Ullozhukku. Her powerful portrayal in this emotionally charged drama has been recognized alongside talented actresses like Divya Prabha (All We Imagine As Light), Kani Kusruti (Girls Will Be Girls), Sai Abhinaya (Kottukkaali), and Chhaya Kadam (Laapataa Ladies).

Directed by Christo Tomy, Ullozhukku has garnered attention across multiple categories at the 7th Critics' Choice Awards, presented by GroupM Motion Entertainment and the Film Critics Guild. This recognition reaffirms Parvathy’s place as one of the most respected actors in contemporary Indian cinema.

Insights from Parvathy Thiruvothu on Her Role in Ullozhukku

In a recent interview with Film Critics Guild’s Vice Chairperson, Sucharita Tyagi, Parvathy opened up about the challenges she faced while portraying her character in the film. She discussed both the emotional and physical hurdles she encountered during filming, emphasizing how her commitment to authenticity played a vital role in her portrayal.

One standout scene from the film involved a pivotal moment where her character asks, "Is this my son’s baby?" Parvathy recalled, “I had a bit of vertigo that day, and strangely, it helped. Since I was already feeling sick, I had shallow breathing, which made it easier to access the character’s guilty and vulnerable state. External factors like these sometimes work in unexpected ways.”

Reflecting on her personal connection to the character, she shared, "Much like many other characters, I feel empowered because of Anju too. Initially, I didn’t see any similarities between us, but as I slowly started noticing microscopic similarities, I began recognizing small connections—especially in the poor choices I’ve made and had to live with."

The Journey of Collaboration with Christo Tomy

Parvathy also spoke about her collaboration with director Christo Tomy, recounting moments of misunderstanding and the mutual trust they developed over time. She revealed that there were instances during filming when they had to pause for 30 to 45 minutes due to frustration, but these challenges ultimately strengthened their working relationship. Now, looking back, Parvathy and Christo often laugh about those moments, realizing how their shared commitment to the film helped them push through.
