One Man Ran Toward a Moving Train to Pull a Stranger to Safety - Ranchi Station's Quiet Hero
Could have been a big mishap at Ranchi station (Jharkhand state capital). Travelling in the departing train (from platform no. 2 ), Alappuzha Express - a passenger tried to get aboard the train. He missed his step and fell into the 5 feet wide gap between the train and the platform. He would have been pulled down by the muscles, but luck was on his side (or on his back). A dashing RPF soldier caught hold of his hand and saved him (I was an eye-witness).
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) head constable, Ravi Shankar Pradhan, by presence of mind and courageous effort saved the life of a passenger. At that time he was on duty with the commercial department staff for ticket checking in platform number 2, when he observed a passenger panicked between train and platform.
Passenger's life saved
Seeing the seriousness of the situation, he reached at the spot at a fast rate, caught hold of the passenger who was being dragged with the train, and out him to safety. The swift action taken by this RPF official prevented a major tragedy. If he would have become a few seconds late, the innocent passenger would have been no more!
After the flare-up, the RPF officials present at the station received high praise. Passengers at the station described the selfless manner in which RaviShankar Pradhan helped the passenger.
The passenger was from Odisha
Subsequently when the injured was inquired about his name he told thathe is Vinay Topo a resident of Rourkela. Sector 16 Research Laun Industrial Township Rourkela Odisha. The injured further stated that he had come to Ranchi Railway Station to board Alappuzha Express. The train was ready to leave. So he ran quickly to catch it. (12).
The railway administration appealed to the passengers not to try to get in or get out of a running train as it takes just a little carelessness to cause a big accident. RPF constable Ravi Shankar Pradhan's/her bravery is being discussed in the air.
