Acclaimed Bollywood director Nitesh Tiwari, who is currently working on his ambitious two-part epic Ramayana, recently opened up about his filmmaking journey and shared his thoughts on classic Bollywood films he would love to remake.
Tiwari’s Dream Remakes: Amar Akbar Anthony and Deewar
In a conversation on the Game Changers podcast, Tiwari was asked which 1970s film he would choose for a remake and who he would cast in it. In response, the filmmaker mentioned two legendary films: Amar Akbar Anthony and Deewar.
“It would either be Amar Akbar Anthony or Deewar. But I don’t think I can cast for it today. Humare actors log ready nahi honge sir. Amar Akbar Anthony aur Deewar aaj ki date mein banana bohot difficult hai,” Tiwari said.
He expressed concern that modern actors might be reluctant to take on such roles, making it challenging to recreate the magic of these timeless classics in today’s cinematic landscape.
About the Classics: Amar Akbar Anthony and Deewar
Amar Akbar Anthony (1977): Directed by Manmohan Desai, this cult favorite starred Vinod Khanna, Rishi Kapoor, and Amitabh Bachchan. It is known for its unique storyline and the iconic camaraderie among the lead trio.
Deewar (1975): Directed by Yash Chopra and written by the legendary Salim-Javed, this film introduced Amitabh Bachchan as the “angry young man,” a role that redefined Bollywood’s narrative style in the 70s.
Upcoming Project: Ramayana
