Opposition revolt has changed the parliamentary arithmetic, leaving the NDA just a few votes away from passing the delimitation bill
Suspense Crime, Digital Desk : Opposition’s rebellion has changed the math,NDA is now only a few votes short from passing the delimitation bill; Mamata Banerjee, Uddhav Thackeray face significant political challenges due to rebellions in their parties. National politics has witnessed a new turn in the last two weeks which was not expected even a month ago.The maximum impact of this political change will be felt in the upcoming monsoon session of the Parliament in which the government is once again planning to get the Constitutional Amendment and Delimitation Bills passed, which is related to the women’s reservation package.
Let us tell you, in the month of April this year, due to united opposition, this important bill got defeated in the Lok Sabha due to just 54 votes deficiency, but now the circumstances have changed completely and if this bill is presented in Parliament once again, then its chances of getting passed will increase.
Let us understand why the bill is expected to get passed. The reason behind this major change is mainly due to the rebel within Mamata Banerjee’s TMC in West Bengal, and similar situation prevailing within the camp of Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena in Maharashtra. Following their defeat in Bengal elections, TMC is breaking at all levels and this has also reflected within the parliament. 20 out of 28 TMC MP in Lok Sabha have rebelled, formed their own group and joined a new party, NCP of India, and it is now likely to become a direct part of the BJP-led NDA alliance.
The state of the Uddhav faction is also not better, let us understand how; Likewise the situation in Bengal politics, there is similar rebellious environment in Maharashtra Politics. There, six out of nine MPs of Uddhav Thackeray's party are also planning to shift their loyalties to Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena.
How would the NDA government get benefits; If we look at this situation, there is a split and rebellion of TMC MPs on one hand and rebellion of Uddhav faction MPs on the other hand, then it will not be wrong to say that the central ruling NDA government may directly benefit from all this turmoil, it could come closer to getting the two-thirds majority required to pass the Constitution Amendment Bill much before the onset of monsoon.
Let’s understand the math of Lok Sabha now, amidst this Political turmoil let us understand the equation in the Lok Sabha. 360 members out of the total 543 need to be in favour of the two-thirds majority as three members of the House are currently vacant. So, NDA now has 318 members, after joining the rebel TMC members; opposition has 184; whereas non-allied parties have 38.
