Mission Samriddhi Gaon: Centre Launches New Initiative to Eradicate Rural Poverty and Boost Village Employment

In a decisive step toward transforming India's grassroots economy, Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has officially launched the ambitious 'Mission Samriddhi Gaon' (Prosperous Village Mission) in the national capital. Designed to target and eradicate poverty at its roots, the nationwide initiative focuses on creating sustainable local employment opportunities and ensuring robust infrastructure across the country's rural heartland.
Initial Pilot Launch in Madhya Pradesh
To test and refine its strategic framework, the mission is rolling out as an intensive pilot model across selected blocks in Madhya Pradesh—specifically targeting Budhni in Sehore district and Khategaon block in Dewas district.
By bringing together the convergence and coordination of multiple central and state government welfare schemes, these pilot zones will serve as incubators for poverty reduction, skill development, and comprehensive economic growth. Once successfully validated, the governance and development model will be scaled up and implemented nationwide across other rural regions.
Key Objectives: Employment Generation and Stopping Migration
During the launch event, Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan emphasized that the core vision of Mission Samriddhi Gaon is to build self-reliant model villages where every household has assured employment. The initiative tackles core socio-economic challenges by:
Providing diverse livelihood opportunities locally, reducing the economic pressure that forces rural youth to migrate to urban centers.
Ensuring universal access to essential basic amenities, quality healthcare, and education within village boundaries.
Synchronizing agricultural support, small-scale entrepreneurship, and rural infrastructure projects to maximize financial inclusion.
