Manufactured Locally Through Indo-Russian Joint Venture
Produced by Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited (IRRPL)—a strategic joint venture between Indian defense public sector undertakings and prominent Russian defense firms Concern Kalashnikov and Rosoboronexport—the AK-203 'Sher' project originated from defense cooperation agreements initiated around 2019.
Managing Director and CEO Major General Sudhish Kumar Sharma highlighted that producing these world-class rifles on Indian soil in Munshiganj, Amethi, is a matter of immense national pride. With robust backing from the Ministry of Defence, IRRPL has streamlined its production schedules to ensure timely deliveries that meet or exceed contractual deadlines, prioritizing national security and operational readiness.
Enhancing Small Arms Capability for the Armed Forces
The introduction of the AK-203 'Sher' will substantially enhance the Indian Army's tactical small arms capability. Designed for high reliability, precision, and ease of handling in diverse combat environments, the rifle is engineered to replace legacy infantry weapons, offering soldiers superior firepower and tactical flexibility during counter-terrorism operations and border defense engagements.
