Election Commission Revises SIR Schedule for Delhi and 5 States: New Voter List Deadlines Announced
In a significant administrative decision aimed at ensuring comprehensive voter enrollment, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday announced an extension of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) schedule for electoral rolls across the Union Territory of Delhi and five states. Following formal representations from respective State Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs), the poll body issued revised timelines for processing claims, resolving objections, and publishing the final integrated voter lists. The recalibrated exercise impacts electoral rolls across Delhi, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Telangana, and Nagaland, granting citizens additional time to update personal details, verify registrations, and submit corrections.
Revised Deadlines for Delhi and Maharashtra: Key Claims and Final Roll Dates
The updated SIR calendar brings extended relief for prospective voters and local election authorities in the national capital and western economic powerhouse:
Delhi Filing Extended to Nov 25: In the National Capital Territory of Delhi, the window for submitting claims and objections—originally scheduled to close on October 30—has now been officially extended to November 25.
Capital Final Roll on Dec 22: The deadline for adjudicating claims in Delhi has shifted from November 30 to December 15, with the final consolidated electoral roll scheduled for public publication on December 22.
Maharashtra Objections Open Till Nov 13: Following the draft voter list release on August 31, Maharashtra’s deadline for receiving claims and objections was moved from October 26 to November 13.
Maharashtra Final Roll Publication: The notice phase and dispute resolution window across Maharashtra will continue through November 25, followed by the release of the final voter list on November 30.
Timeline Adjustments Across Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Telangana, and Nagaland
The poll panel has synchronized final voter list deadlines across four other states participating in the ongoing revision exercise:
Andhra Pradesh and Haryana: The notice and dispute resolution phase will officially conclude on November 20, paving the way for the publication of final electoral rolls on November 30.
Telangana and Nagaland: The claims resolution window will draw to a close on November 25 in Nagaland and November 26 in Telangana, with both states also slated to release final rolls on November 30.
Scope of Phase Three: The revision forms part of the expansive third phase of the Special Intensive Revision announced by the Commission on May 14, spanning 16 states and three union territories.
Supreme Court Submission: Addressing ongoing legal scrutiny regarding institutional procedures, the ECI clarified before the Supreme Court that all substantive decisions regarding roll revisions were taken unanimously by all three Election Commissioners, dismissing claims of unilateral executive orders by Gyanesh Kumar.
