Delhi Assembly Speaker calls on Ladakh LG during study tour to UT
New Delhi:The Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta on Wednesday called on the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Vinai Kumar Saxena, during a study tour to the union Territory.
Gupta was accompanied by Members of the Delhi Legislative Assembly Surya Prakash Khatri, Sanjay Goyal and Aahir Deepak Chaudhary.
The meeting provided an opportunity for a fruitful exchange of views on governance, development, sustainability, and environmental challenges facing the region.
During the interaction, the LG briefed the Speaker on the transformative development taking place in Ladakh following its emergence as a union Territory.
Saxena highlighted that the number of districts in Ladakh has increased from two to seven, enabling better administrative outreach and accelerated development.
He also spoke about the significant infrastructure initiatives underway, particularly the construction of strategic tunnels and connectivity projects, which are expected to enhance all-weather access, boost economic growth, and improve the quality of life for residents.
Gupta apprised the LG of several pioneering initiatives undertaken by the Delhi Legislative Assembly in the areas of digital governance and environmental sustainability.
He highlighted the successful implementation of the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA), which has substantially reduced paper consumption and contributed to the conservation of a large number of trees while enhancing legislative efficiency.
The speaker further informed that the Assembly’s installation of a 500 kW solar power system has resulted in significant savings in electricity consumption.
He added that plans are underway to expand the solar capacity by an additional 300 kW, which is expected to make the Assembly virtually self-sufficient in meeting its electricity requirements and substantially reduce its energy costs.
