Centre Extends Deployment of 270 CAPF Companies Till Nov 16 Ahead of Protests

In a decisive move to maintain strict peace and public order across the national capital, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has extended the deployment of 270 companies of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) in Delhi for a third consecutive term until November 16. Officials confirmed on Thursday that the tactical security reinforcement comes ahead of the scheduled mega rally at Ramlila Maidan on Sunday, November 1, alongside intelligence inputs indicating possible impromptu demonstrations by various political factions and organizations. Coupled with the logistical pressures of managing crowds during the peak festive season, the massive paramilitary grid will operate under the direct operational command of the Delhi Police to prevent any breach of public tranquility.

Massive Force Breakdown: CRPF, BSF, ITBP & Rapid Action Force Fortify the Capital

The sanctioned strength of each paramilitary company stands at 100 personnel, with an effective on-ground operational count typically ranging between 70 and 72 personnel per unit:

Heavy CRPF Footprint: The lion's share of the contingent comprises 125 companies of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), which notably includes 17 specialized all-women battalions assigned to sensitive public demonstration sectors.

Border & Specialized Units: The operational grid features 46 companies from the Border Security Force (BSF), 39 companies of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), 31 from the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), and 12 companies of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

Riot-Control Readiness: A dedicated contingent of 20 companies from the Rapid Action Force (RAF)—specialized in managing civil unrest and mob dispersals—has been placed on standby across key transit junctures.

Third Extension by Centre: Ramlila Maidan Gathering & Festive Vigil Drive Decision

These armed security contingents were originally inducted into the capital territory earlier this month to handle localized party agitations, but emerging security developments prompted repeated extensions:

Ramlila Maidan Protest Rally: Security agencies are taking proactive steps ahead of the November 1 congregation at Central Delhi's historic Ramlila Maidan, securing perimeter entryways, arterial corridors, and high-footfall intersections.

Preempting Unannounced Agitations: Law enforcement agencies remain vigilant against flash protests or unscheduled sit-ins across sensitive zones including the Central Vista, government secretariats, and transport hubs.

Festive Season Public Safety: With markets, shopping plazas, and religious venues drawing heavy crowds through Diwali and Chhath celebrations, the prolonged CAPF deployment ensures uninterrupted vigilance, rapid response capability, and multi-tier perimeter security across Delhi-NCR.
