Suspense crime, Digital Desk : New Delhi, India – Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the opposition Congress party on the 49th anniversary of the Emergency, branding it the "darkest chapter" in India's democratic history and accusing the party of having the "mindset of a dictator."

In a series of powerful posts on the social media platform X, the Prime Minister asserted that the Congress party had "trampled over the Constitution" when it imposed the Emergency on June 25, 1975. He stated that the then-government suspended fundamental rights, silenced the media, and transformed the nation into a prison.

"The mindset which led to the imposition of the Emergency is very much alive among the same party which imposed it," Modi wrote, drawing a direct line from the events of 1975 to the present-day political conduct of the Congress party.

While condemning the actions of the then-government, PM Modi also paid tribute to the "greats" who resisted the Emergency and fought to protect India's democratic values. "Just to cling on to power, the then Congress Government disregarded every democratic principle," he stated, urging the nation to remember the sacrifices made by these patriots.

The Prime Minister framed the anniversary as a pledge for his party, the BJP, to do everything possible to uphold and protect the Constitution. He contrasted this with what he described as the Congress party's disregard for constitutional principles, both in the past and present.

The powerful statement on the anniversary serves to reinforce a key political narrative for the BJP, highlighting a controversial period in the Congress party's history as a warning about the fragility of democratic institutions.
