Suspense crime, Digital Desk : The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has enlisted Mike Hesson as the new head coach of the national men’s white-ball team. The 50-year-old New Zealander is set to officially take over on May 26, 2025. The terms of the contract remain undisclosed.
Hesson’s Coaching Background
Hesson previously coached New Zealand from 2012–2018, leading them through a successful period in all three formats.
He worked with Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL as Director of Cricket from 2019 to 2023.
He is presently head coach of Islamabad United, the champions of PSL 2024.
First Assignment with Pakistan
Hesson will likely first lead Pakistan in the white-ball format against Bangladesh in the T20I series, although that is subject to change. He takes over from Javed who succeeded Kirsten after he resigned in October 2024.
Transition in the Coaching Staff
Aqib Javed is now the High-Performance Director and Head Coach of Pakistan's national men’s team.
As a selector, Javed retains a role in the decision-making process for team selection.
Kirsten was contracted in April 2024 for two years but suddenly left six months later.
Naqvi Congratulates Hesson's Appointment
Mike was welcomed by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who said:
“He has international work experience that is coupled with a history of creating competitive sides. We are eager about his guidance and leadership with respect to the direction of white-ball cricket in Pakistan.”
