Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti, criticized the Indian government for canceling the visas of all Pakistani citizens currently residing in India. This step escalated after the Pahalgam terror attack which killed 26 people, tourists and citizens domestically, on the 22nd of April in Kashmir.
Mufti pointed out the unfortunate consequences of this on her Twitter account. “Many of the women who have been affected came to India 30–40 years ago, married Indians and started families, hence they are fundamental to us and society," she tweeted.
Mukti did indeed take to Twitter to highlight the impact of such policies.
“Undertaking such measures will inflict irreparable damage to individuals and families who have peacefully dwelled in our territory for decades." Mehbooba Mufti, who previously served as Chief Minister, claimed the policies indeed require reevaluating.
Restricting entry for women, children, and the elderly lacks compassion, and is unreasonable. This calls for a feasible response from the authorities.
Isolated individuals who have no links with Pakistan, and whose the rest of their family is living in India, these kinds of steps leads towards loosening family ties, which is absurd. The Indian government ought to contemplate the impact this policy is bound to have on families.
India’s Answer to the Pahalgam Terror Attack
This was followed by the intension of assailants confirmed them as the terrorists whose mark had been left on the operations. These marks had brutally shot them in the head while screaming out the religion they assumed them to be part of “Pahalgam”. Many claims to this within a month due to further violence leading to instability were linked to payment by Lashkar-e-Taiba.
In response, New Delhi not only suspended the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan, but also canceled visas. Pakistani nationals living in India are now restricted for clearance and must exit within a specified timeframe as security forces sweep the country.
Collateral Consequences of the Visa Cancellations
The deportations form part of the Indian government's more comprehensive response to heightened conflict with Pakistan. But as some of the concerns articulated by Mehbooba Mufti highlight, these kinds of actions affect deeply entwined families and social structures.
