According to a Crime Branch spokesperson, the accused was caught with a large quantity of hydroponic weed, a high-potency strain of cannabis cultivated using water-based mineral solutions instead of soil.

“This is the biggest drug seizure in Goa's history. The accused has been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act,” the spokesperson said.

CM Pramod Sawant Applauds Police Action

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant took to X (formerly Twitter) to commend the Crime Branch for its success in cracking down on drug-related offenses.

"Congratulations to the Crime Branch Goa Police for Goa’s Biggest-Ever Drug Bust! This breakthrough is a testament to the relentless efforts of our law enforcement agencies in keeping our state drug-free," he wrote.

Sawant reaffirmed the state government's commitment to a zero-tolerance policy on drugs, vowing to strengthen intelligence networks and enhance surveillance to curb drug trafficking and safeguard the youth.

What is Hydroponic Weed?

Hydroponic weed refers to cannabis cultivated without soil, using water-based nutrient solutions in a controlled artificial environment. This method allows for faster growth, higher potency, and better quality, making it highly sought-after in the illegal drug trade.

Goa's War on Drugs Intensifies

The Goa government has been stepping up its crackdown on drug trafficking, with multiple high-profile seizures in recent months. The latest bust marks a significant victory in the state’s ongoing battle to eliminate drug networks and protect its citizens from narcotics-related harm.

Further investigation is underway to identify potential links between the arrested individual and larger drug syndicates operating in and beyond Goa.
