Major accident in Ballia: Boat capsizes in Ganga river, 4 dead, more than 20 missing

A major tragedy occurred in Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia on Monday morning when a boat overturned in the river Ganga. 4 people died in this accident. The dead also include women. It is also being said that 20 to 25 people are missing. It is being told that more than 35 people were on board the boat. Teams of SDRF and NDRF are currently engaged in rescue operations at the spot.

The accident took place near Maldepur Ghat under Fefna Police Station area. It is being told that according to the Ohad tradition, after the Mundan ceremony, everyone was going to worship on the other side of the Ganges. Meanwhile this accident happened. Boatmen on the ghat have pulled 6 people out of the river. Everyone has been sent to hospital. Along with the administration, local people are also engaged in rescue work.

Major accident in Ballia

DM Ravinder Kumar, SP Rajkaran Nair and several senior officials are present at the spot and rescue operations are underway. The DM said that people came to Maldepur Ganga Ghat around 8:30 this morning for the mundan rite. All were crossing the Ganga by boat. This accident happened during that time. We have received information that the boat has capsized due to engine failure. Divers present at the spot started the rescue operation. The boat has yet to be taken out.

 

An eyewitness said, ‘The capacity of the boat was to seat only 20 people. However, the boat was over capacity. However, the policemen present opposed it, after which some people were also taken off the boat. This is also being considered as the cause of the accident. At present the administration officials have not confirmed this.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi has taken note of the boat accident. The Chief Minister has instructed the officials of the district administration to immediately take the injured to the hospital and provide proper treatment.
