Is it possible for D. K. Shivkumar to transform into a Congress version of Eknath Shivkumar? Speculations of D.K. Shivkumar, senior leader at Congress and current Deputy Chief Minister, joining the BJP has been discarded by B. Y. Vijayendra, current president of the Karnataka unit of BJP. The statement given by Vijayendra stems from certain leaders from the BJP suggesting that Shivkumar could be the Congress version of Eknath Shinde in Karnataka. Nevertheless, Vijayendra gave a slightly different statement by predicting “rapid” political changes in the state.

“Ever since Siddaramaiah’s resignation, he has had numerous followers wanting to take his place, and as a result, the Chief Minister post is far more hotly contested than ever before." added Vijayendra.

“BJP can propogate its own Shinde movement in Karnataka, just like in Maharashtra.” Conversely, BJP’s pessimistic leader Sriramulu decided to bite the bullet and claimed this is also a possibility in Karnataka. “You will witness who will take charge of it within the ruling party,” he stated, while Not naming anyone from Congress. “Politics isn't a blockage; it's a stream, and so witnessing such turbulence is completely normal.”

Sriramulu continued, ‘We all witnessed how a defiant figure like Veerendra Patil had to give up his role as the chief minister because of a decision that was made at the airport. The same case is evident in the treatment meted out to Devaraj Urs’.”

What brought DK Shivakumar to focus? Why is currrently he in the news?

Shivakumar participated at the Shivaratri event of the Isha Foundation alongside Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev. Reports suggest that this has stirred disquiet among some Congress leaders who believe that Shivakumar is getting too close to the BJP’s ideology.

The government collapsed in Maharashtra in the year 2022.

While seeking to exploit this, BJP’s opposition leader in the assembly R Ashok on Thursday took a jibe at the ruling Congress by equating Shivakumar with the Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde of Maharashtra. Ajit Pawar led MVA coalition government of Maharashtra collapsed in the year 2022 after the Eknath Shinde led faction of the Shiv Sena rebelled and split.

Nevertheless, Congress leader and Minister B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan disregarded the notion that Shivakumar is willing to shift to the BJP claiming that Congress is in his blood. He expressed confidence that DK Shivakumar will not leave the party under any circumstances and will remain loyal to the Congress as he has been.

Will the ambitions of Shivkumar get actualized ?

We remind the reader that Congress under DK Shivakumar’s president election campaign won in Karnataka.

The prediction was that the party would designate him as the CM of the state, but Siddaramaiah was given command instead. Though he did assume the role of Deputy CM. It was noted that both would be allotted the chair with a gap of two and half years each.

Regardless, Congress has not issued a formal statement promising anything like that. Ever since, DK Shivakumar has consistently tried to push Siddaramaiah out of the CM’s position, but CM Sidda has made it quite clear that he will not budge from the chair. Ever since, the politics of Karnataka has been evolving at a rapid pace.
