Rail services across the Koderma-Hazaribagh Town section experienced major disruptions on Monday following a dangerous act of sabotage involving overhead electrical infrastructure. A 10 to 15-meter stretch of the Over Head Equipment (OHE) wire was deliberately severed by anti-social elements near the Jawahar Bridge. Thanks to the exemplary alertness and quick thinking of a goods train loco pilot who spotted the snapped lines on Monday morning, a catastrophic train accident was successfully averted. Railway authorities immediately halted operations on the affected section, launching extensive repair works while train schedules faced severe cascading delays.
Loco Pilot's Alertness Averts Disaster and Anti-Social Sabotage Confirmed
The incident came to light when the loco pilot of an incoming goods train traveling from Barhi toward Koderma noticed the broken OHE wire near the Jawahar Ghat bridge. Promptly reporting the emergency to the Dhanbad Railway Control room at around 10:00 AM, the pilot ensured that power lines were instantly shut off, preventing potential derailments or electrical hazards. Hazaribagh RPF Inspector Bal Gangadhar, alongside RPF Assistant Commandant Sudip Kumar Ghosh and senior officials from the Dhanbad and Koderma traction departments, rushed to the site for immediate inspections. Officials confirmed that 10 to 15 meters of copper OHE wire had been sheared off by unknown perpetrators, prompting the registration of a formal criminal case against unidentified individuals at Hazaribagh town.
Affected Train Services: Ranchi Vande Bharat Diverted and Two Passenger Trains Cancelled
The disruption severely impacted daily rail connectivity across the route for several hours before rapid railway engineering teams managed to reconnect the wires and restore normalcy by 1:00 PM. However, the temporary suspension forced sweeping operational changes:
Train Cancellations: The 53371 Koderma-Barkakana Passenger and the 53372 Barkakana-Koderma Passenger trains were completely cancelled for the day.
Route Diversions: Premium services, including the Ranchi Vande Bharat Express and the Asansol Hatia Express, were rerouted via Gomoh to bypass the affected zone.
Schedule Delays: The 13514 Asansol Hatia Express departed Hatia four hours behind its scheduled 2:45 PM time, while the Patna Vande Bharat Express originating from Ranchi suffered a delayed departure, arriving at Hazaribagh Town and Koderma nearly an hour behind schedule.
Railway security agencies have stepped up patrolling along isolated stretches of the Koderma-Hazaribagh route to prevent similar security breaches and ensure the absolute safety of passengers.
