Jharkhand Voter List Fraud Alert: Chief Electoral Officer Directs Strict Scrutiny Over Land Records and Genealogy Tampering
The electoral administration in Jharkhand has sounded a major alarm following widespread reports of deliberate fraud within the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter rolls. Authorities have detected coordinated attempts by foreign nationals attempting to illegally incorporate their names into Indian voter lists by falsifying land records (Khatian), family genealogies (vanshavali), and posing as descendants of local families.
CEO K. Ravi Kumar Issues Urgent Directives to District Officials
In response to mounting complaints, Jharkhand Chief Electoral Officer K. Ravi Kumar has issued strict directives to all District Electoral Officers across the state. Officials have been instructed to immediately flag suspicious applications and report individuals attempting to manipulate official documentation to the respective Electoral Registration Officers (EROs).
The Election Commission emphasized that submitting fabricated declarations or false details to secure electoral inclusion constitutes a serious offense under the Representation of the People Act, 1950, warranting stringent legal prosecution. District authorities have been ordered to meticulously verify land records, ancestral linkages, and family genealogies presented during claims and objections hearings.
Strict Action Against Aiding Local Citizens
The electoral watchdog made it clear that accountability extends beyond the applicants themselves. If investigations reveal that any local resident, Khatian holder, or family member actively colluded in facilitating fraudulent entries or providing false affidavits for ineligible individuals, strict legal action under relevant statutory provisions will be initiated.
At the same time, the Chief Electoral Officer reassured genuine citizens that the verification process is not intended to harass eligible voters. EROs and AEROs have been instructed to provide ample opportunity for citizens to present valid documentation, ensuring that reasoned decisions are delivered without causing undue distress.
Comprehensive Checks for Age Discrepancies and Female Voter Verification
To ensure absolute accuracy, the CEO outlined detailed protocols for addressing logical discrepancies:
Age-Related Inconsistencies: Officials must investigate age anomalies with extreme caution. When verifying families with multiple registered children, birth dates and documents must be cross-examined collectively alongside parental age gaps to prevent erroneous deletions.
Lineage Verification for Female Voters: Where verification of a female voter's genealogy is required, records and ancestral family linkages from her paternal background must be integrated to guarantee an impartial, fact-based verification process.
