Veteran actress and Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan recently opened up about a critical health scare involving her husband, Amitabh Bachchan, revealing the shocking state of medical facilities during his hospital admission. In an emotional statement, she shared the dire situation that unfolded during his hospitalization, particularly highlighting the shortage of essential medical supplies, such as oxygen cylinders, during an emergency.
Amitabh Bachchan’s Deteriorating Health and Medical Crisis
Jaya Bachchan revealed that at one point, Amitabh’s health deteriorated so drastically that he had to be admitted to the Intensive Cardiac Care Unit (ICCU). She mentioned that during this period, her husband was not in Mumbai, adding to the stress of the situation.
"He needed oxygen support 24/7, but the reality of the medical system left us in complete distress," Jaya said, expressing how critical the circumstances were.
Despite the severity of the situation, Jaya explained how the healthcare system's inefficiencies exacerbated the crisis, especially when it came to essential medical supplies.
Healthcare System’s Shortcomings and Oxygen Shortage
In a shocking revelation, Jaya Bachchan spoke about her personal involvement in the situation, stating, “I was personally supervising everything because no nurses were available. The oxygen cylinder ran out, and he was struggling to breathe.”
This distressing statement shed light on the lack of preparedness and medical resources even in critical situations, underscoring how even someone of Amitabh Bachchan’s stature was vulnerable to the failings of the healthcare system.
Jaya recounted the overwhelming moment when their family received empty oxygen cylinders instead of filled ones, causing additional distress.
"We brought a cylinder in the middle of the night, but it was empty. Can you imagine the condition of the patient and their family in such a situation?" she said, reflecting the immense pressure they were under.
Her account resonated deeply with the public, especially given the widespread oxygen shortages during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Gratitude Amidst the Crisis
Despite the overwhelming odds, Jaya Bachchan expressed gratitude for the help they received during the crisis. She acknowledged the kindness of some individuals who went out of their way to help arrange a filled oxygen cylinder in time.
"Some kind souls helped us, and we somehow managed to get a cylinder. This is a serious issue; it falls under the category of medicine and needs strict regulation," Jaya emphasized.
Urgent Need for Healthcare Reforms
Jaya Bachchan's emotional plea urged the authorities to take healthcare issues more seriously and implement stricter regulations to avoid such incidents in the future. She passionately stressed the importance of prioritizing the health of Indian citizens and called for the introduction of a separate law to address the ongoing healthcare deficiencies.
"I don’t want to say much, but I will only say that the health of Indian citizens should be prioritized, and a separate law should be introduced for this,” she said, underscoring the need for urgent reforms to prevent medical negligence and ensure better healthcare standards for all.
