Suspense crime, Digital Desk : In a significant escalation of the ongoing shadow war in the Middle East, the Israeli military announced on Friday that it has killed two senior commanders of Iran's elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in an airstrike in Syria.
According to IDF spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, the targeted individuals were Mohammad Ali Allahdadi and Abu Ali Tabatabai. He stated that the two commanders were leading a terrorist cell that was in the final stages of planning "imminent attacks" against Israel using drones and rockets from Syrian territory.
"This strike was a precise and necessary action to thwart a clear and present danger to the State of Israel," Hagari said in a press briefing, framing the operation as a pre-emptive defensive measure.
The incident marks a direct and high-profile confrontation between Israel and Iran on Syrian soil. For years, Israel has conducted a campaign of airstrikes in Syria, primarily aimed at disrupting Iranian weapons transfers to its proxy, Hezbollah, and preventing Iran from establishing a permanent military foothold in the country. However, the confirmed killing of senior IRGC commanders is a major event that significantly raises the stakes.
The strike is expected to provoke a strong response from Tehran, which will likely vow retaliation. This raises concerns about a potential cycle of escalation that could further destabilize the already volatile region, drawing in other actors and increasing the risk of a broader conflict.
