IPL 2025: The Gujarat Titans (GT) take on Punjab Kings(PBKS) in the fifth match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 scheduled to be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Tuesday. GT made history in 2022 after winning the IPL title in their first season. GT had a disappointing 2023 where they were the runners-up and 2024 which saw them finish eighth on the table.
PBKS had an equally dismal season in 2024 where they managed to win only 5 matches out of the 14 played. Under the new captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, they certainly have a chance to improve their ranking. GT, under the new captaincy of Shubman Gill, would also like to improve their standing having had a poor 2024 season.
Head-to-head record:
Gujrat Titans and Punjab Kings have played 5 games against each other. Out of these matchups, the Gujarat Titans have won three matches, giving them a slight edge in the overall head-to-head record.
The Punjab Kings have also done this against the Titans being able to win two games against them.
According to reports, the pitch in Ahmedabad is famous for being a 'batting paradise,' ideal for high-scoring matches.
However, in my estimation, the pitch was sometimes unkind during the majority of the 2024 season games.
Bowlers are guaranteed great bounce at the start due to the early pressure phase, and the batter friendly pitch with its flat and bouncy surface guarantees the ball will land easily which increases the chances of the batters scoring highly.
There is no possibility of rain, allowing the match to be played free of interruptions, and the forecast even looks good for cricket with the temperatures hovering around 38 degree Celsius, bright skies, and high humidity.
In the 36 IPL games played at the Narendra Modi Stadium, teams batting second have an obvious advantage.
Out of these, only 15 games where a target was set were won as opposed to the 20 games won while chasing the target. One of the matches finished without a result. This implies the pattern of a team winning the toss and opting to bowl first so they can utilize the easier conditions for chasing is highly likely.
Gujrat Titans Expected 11: GT vs PBKS Captain Shubman Gill will take the lead alongside Jos Buttler, Sai Sudharsan, Glenn Phillips, Mahipal Lomror, Rahul Tewatia, Washingston Sundar, Rashid Khan, R. Sai Kishore, Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj. Punjab Kings Expected 11: Prabhsimran Singh, Aryan dra, Shreyas Iyer (Captain), Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell, Shashank, Marco Jansen Arshdeep, Harpreet Brar, Lockie Ferguson and Yuzvendra Chahal.
