Suspense crime, Digital Desk : India has suspended all categories of mail and parcel services to Pakistan by air and over land, following the grave Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir terror attack which killed 26 civilians on April 22. This move, declared through a circular by the Department of Posts under Ministry of Communications, marks a further glaring increase in the already strained diplomatic and logistical relations between the two countries.

Reason For Suspension

The suspension was ordered as preliminary inquiries pointed towards cross border elements for the Pahalgam attack. These Indian measures seem to have been taken with the intent of imposing drastic consequences on Pakistan for what are perceived as undeniable associations with the terrorism.

India’s Suspension Of Operations Counter Measures

In the immediate aftermath of the incident, a classified defense meeting was conducted where Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued “complete operational freedom” to the Indian Navy and Airforce. Modi reiterated commitment saying the stand against terrorism is resolute and unwavering along with those who provide support for such acts.

As part of India's reaction to the assault, the following actions were taken:

The Indus Waters Treaty has been suspended.

Closure of the Attari-Wagah border crossing, which is the only functioning land border between the two nations.

Reduction of diplomatic missions and their respective activities in each country.

The Response of Pakistan

In retaliation, Pakistan has ground all flights from India and suspended all trade with the country, even goods traded through other nations. Furthermore, they deemed India's proclamation to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty an act of war, provided that the forcible withholding of water flows is deemed a criminal act.

The aggression with which these countries are resorting to unilateral decisions indicates a shift in Pakistan-India relations from volatile to highly hostile, as they both seek to circumvent each other in the wake of the Pahalgam tragedy.
