2025 Semifinal Match IND vs AUS Champions Trophy: The second semifinal of the ICC Champions Trophy was played in Dubai on Tuesday where Australia played against India. The Australian team's captain Steve Smith called the toss correctly and chose to bat first. In this encounter, the players of Team India came out wearing black bands on their arms. Rohit Sharma was the first player to come and during the toss, he was seen wearing a bandage and later his other teammates also did so during the match.
The Indian cricket fraternity mourned the loss of Shivalkar
A disheartening piece of news reached the Indian cricket fraternity just ahead of the semifinal match against Australia. Legendary off spinner from Mumbai, Padmakar Shivalkar breathed his last. Following which, the entire Indian cricket fraternity went in to mourning. To which the BCCI was not immune to and also expressed their sorrow through posts on x. In those wearing black bands, It was mentioned that the players went for the silver medal match wearing black bands as a sign of mourning.
What did the BCCI state?
In its press release, the BCCI's note said the board deeply condoles the unfortunate demise of Padmakar Shivalkar. Srivalkar was a outstaning domestic great in Indian cricket and one of the finest left arm spinners India produced. Although he never played for India internationally, it was in Shivalker’s case was its due recognition. He received the Colonel CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions in Indian cricket in the year 2017.
Achieved a total of 589 runs in first class matches
Between the years 1962-1987, one of the best spinners who never played for India, Srivalkar in 124 first class matches took 589 wickets with a bowling average of 19.69. Shiv With Turner has made his debut in the Ranji Trophy at 22 years of age and played the coveted tournament in his 48th year. Srivalkar had 361 wickets in the country’s premier domestic competition and 11 of those were in 10-wicket matches. He has also picked up a total of 16 wickets in 12 List A matches.
