The Income Tax Department has reportedly issued a notice to Antony Perumbavoor, producer of the recently released L2: Empuraan. The notice concerns financial transactions associated with two earlier projects: Lucifer and Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea, and not the current release.

This development follows ongoing investigations linked to raids conducted in 2022 on various film production offices and residences across Kerala. Aashirvad Cinemas, believed to be owned by Perumbavoor, was among the entities inspected.

2022 Raids Continue to Drive Financial Investigations
The 2022 Income Tax raids targeted five Kerala-based production companies, focusing on financial activities between 2019 and 2022. Sources say the current notice is a continuation of those earlier probes and emphasizes that it is unrelated to L2: Empuraan, despite the political nature of the film.

Actor Prithviraj Sukumaran Also Receives Tax Notice
Actor-director Prithviraj Sukumaran has been served a separate notice seeking details about his income from the 2022 films Jana Gana Mana, Gold, and Kaduva. The notice, dated March 29, requires his response by April 29.

This is not the first time Prithviraj has faced scrutiny. Back in 2022, the Income Tax Department conducted searches at his residence and office, reportedly linked to discrepancies in tax filings.

Family Responds to Allegations
Prithviraj’s mother, veteran actress Mallika Sukumaran, addressed the situation publicly in an interview with Mathrubhumi News. She stated, “My son has done nothing wrong. We are not afraid of any investigation.”

L2: Empuraan Faces Political Backlash and Scene Cuts
L2: Empuraan, which stars Mohanlal and is directed by Prithviraj himself, has been under heavy criticism from right-wing groups. The backlash was triggered by the film’s depiction of the 2002 Gujarat riots in its opening sequence.

In response, the filmmakers removed 17 scenes from the movie. The re-edited version was released on April 2, reducing the film's runtime from 179.52 minutes to 177.44 minutes. The original release occurred on March 27.ith /rewrite.
