'I do 90% social work, I don't need election campaigning'... said Nitin Gadkari
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said he doesn't campaign during elections because, even though he's a politician, "90 percent" of his work is social work. He was speaking as the chief guest at a ceremony where the "Punya Bhushan" award, instituted by the Punya Bhushan Foundation to honor prominent citizens of Pune, was presented to industrialist Abhay Firodia.
The senior BJP leader said, "Although I am a politician, I do 90 percent social work. Therefore, I don't feel the need to campaign during elections."
Gadkari said that Firodia is not only an industrialist, but also a socially sensitive person who follows ethics in business. Speaking about the automobile industry, the Union Minister said that it provides jobs to the youth.
Rapid growth in the electric vehicle segment
He said that the electric vehicle segment is now growing rapidly and buyers have to wait longer for EVs than petrol and diesel vehicles.
On the other hand, actors Aamir Khan, Nana Patekar and Makarand Anaspure will participate in a two-day conference of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari's 'Purti Sinchana Samruddhi Kalyankari Sanstha' on water conservation and groundwater rejuvenation in Maharashtra's Vidarbha region.
On the occasion of its silver jubilee, 'Poorti Sinchana Samriddhi Kalyankari Sanstha' organised 'Jal Samvad' and 'Jalkranti Parishad' here on 17th and 18th May.
"The event will discuss ways to save water to save Vidarbha from farmer suicides. Farmers, sarpanches and people from across Vidarbha are expected to attend," Gadkari said at a press conference here on Sunday.
Initiative to save groundwater
Gadkari said that he and others have been working for the last 25 years under the 'Poorti Sinchana Samriddhi Kalyankari Sanstha' to address water scarcity and irrigation problems in Vidarbha and provide financial stability to farmers.
He stated that the organization's primary objective is to develop villages and the agricultural sector. He also stated that the organization's "Tamaswada Rejuvenation Model" is now recognized nationwide. The nearly 12-kilometer-long Tamaswada "drain" in Selu taluka was identified and restored. He added that the project was planned by studying the Shirpur pattern in Dhule district and with the help of geologists.
