In a significant move to capitalize on the booming artificial intelligence (AI) and data centre market, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a part of the Tata Group, is partnering with the global private equity firm TPG to invest up to ₹18,000 crore (approximately $2.16 billion) into a new venture. The joint investment will be directed towards establishing Hyperstack, an AI and hyperscale data centre unit.
Under the proposed structure, Hyperstack will be carved out from Tata Group's existing data-telecom entity, Tata Communications. This new, independent unit will focus on building and operating state-of-the-art data centres to meet the rapidly growing demand for AI infrastructure. TPG will be a key strategic partner in this venture, bringing significant capital and global expertise in scaling large infrastructure projects.
The substantial investment from TCS and TPG underscores the immense growth potential seen in the data centre and AI sectors, both globally and in India. The creation of Hyperstack is aimed at positioning the Tata Group as a major player in the high-performance computing space, catering to the intensive data processing needs of AI and machine learning applications. This strategic partnership is expected to accelerate the development of critical digital infrastructure in the region.
