Suspense crime, Digital Desk : In a surprising turn of events, it is claimed that Mohammed Abdul Hamid, the former president of Bangladesh, has now relocated to Thailand. He is said to have flown out in the early hours of 3 AM, wearing a lungi and being wheeled through the airport in an attempt to avoid being seen. This comes after the fall of the Awami League government and the rise of a new interim government led by a Nobel Laureate.

Awami League Outlawed After Political Shake-Up

This departure came just days after the Bangladesh Election Commission annulled the registration of Awami League, thereby preventing it from participating in future elections. The interim government led by Muhammad Yunus has also placed a complete ban on any forms of activity by the Awami League, be it physical or virtual.

Hamid Under Legal Battles

Former president Hamid is facing a legal battle of his own, being one of the alleged perpetrators in a murder case filed at the Kishoreganj Sadar police station. He is also facing inquiry for his alleged role during last year’s violent crackdown on student demonstrators.

Government Criticized After Hamid’s Escape

The interim government received backlash after Hamid's departure. Protest leaders began issuing ultimatums in demand of responsibility. A high-level committee, led by Education Adviser Prof CR Abrar, has been tasked to look into the matter. So far, three other officials have been suspended under the order of Professor CR Abrar.

Disappointment Towards Other Awami League Leaders

Hamid’s escape is merely a symptom of a larger plague. The former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina located herself in India after August of 2024. Assauduzamman Khan Jamal and Hasan Mahmud were also members from the party who were arrested trying to flee the nation. Now a sizable number of them are in hiding and a good amount are being prosecuted.
