Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has outlined a series of ambitious and futuristic projects aimed at transforming the public transportation landscape of Delhi-NCR. In a bid to alleviate the city's chronic traffic congestion and severe air pollution, Gadkari introduced a visionary plan that includes "flying buses," double-decker services, and major new road infrastructure.
The most eye-catching element of the proposal is the introduction of "flying buses." This term does not refer to airborne vehicles but is a metaphor for a highly efficient electric trolleybus system. These buses would be powered by overhead electric cables, similar to systems used in many European cities. Running on electricity, they would be a zero-emission solution, and their dedicated infrastructure could allow them to move more swiftly than conventional traffic, effectively "flying" over the congestion below.
Expanding on this vision for a modern transit system, Gadkari also announced plans to launch luxury double-decker buses on key routes connecting Delhi to other major cities. These services would cater to commuters traveling on busy corridors, providing a comfortable and efficient alternative to private vehicles.
Beyond public transit vehicles, the plan includes a significant infrastructure overhaul. Gadkari detailed a proposal for a new inter-ring road for Delhi. This project would be developed in collaboration with the Delhi government and is designed to divert traffic that currently clogs the city's main arteries, further easing congestion for local commuters.
These initiatives are part of a broader strategy championed by Gadkari to shift India's transport sector towards sustainable and indigenous fuel sources. He reiterated his commitment to promoting vehicles powered by electricity, ethanol, methanol, and green hydrogen.
By combining innovative transit solutions like trolleybuses with strategic infrastructure projects, Gadkari's plan aims to create a cleaner, faster, and more convenient public transport network, heralding a new era for urban mobility in India's capital region.
