The Struggle Behind Writing 'Arziyan'
During a special appearance on the popular television quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati hosted by Amitabh Bachchan, legendary lyricist and writer Prasoon Joshi was asked about the most challenging song of his career. Answering the host's query, Joshi shared that penning the track 'Mirammat Muqaddar Ki Kar Do Maula' (a prominent segment of 'Arziyan') was exceptionally demanding. He admitted that for an entire year, he wrestled with finding a fresh, authentic perspective to express devotion through words without sounding repetitive.
The Haunting Inspiration from an Old Woman at a Dargah
Sharing the deeply moving anecdote behind the lyrics, Joshi recalled an image from his childhood in Rampur. While walking to school every day, he would pass by a local dargah where an elderly woman sat regularly. The deep wrinkles and lines etched across her forehead left a lasting impression on the young writer's mind. Over the years, those visible lines began to symbolize cracks that needed mending.
Connecting that enduring childhood imagery to the soul of the track, Joshi explained how he eventually presented the concept to legendary composer A.R. Rahman. He translated the visual metaphor into the unforgettable lines: "Main kya arzi bheju wahan, mere maula toh sab jaane hai" and "Maine toh apni saari arziyaan maathe ki lakeeron pe likh di hain." Hearing the creative genesis of the song left even Amitabh Bachchan astonished by the sheer poetic depth.
