As a close ally of ex-President Trump, Elon Musk, who’s known for his philanthropic activities, is scheduled to receive a briefing from the Pentagon regarding the United States military plans concerning a conflict situation with China. This was reported by US officials on Thursday, and has been covered by the New York Times.
Musk’s involvement in a confidential military document is a notable escalation in the scope of work he undertakes as a Trump aide advocating for slashing budgetary expenditure by the US government.
Moreover, this information Musk’s position as CEO of Tesla and SpaceX would create potential profit from business engagements in China and with the Pentagon which raises red flags on conflicting interests.
The White House, on the other hand, Musk does not intend to take action on possible conflict of interest issues preemptively relating to his business activities and efforts to decrease the expenditure of taxpayers money.
According to the New York Times, the report on the China military strategy has around 20-30 slides detailing the proposed operations of United States armed forces during combat and presented as a war plan.
The Pentagon revealed further details about Musk's visit confirming that it is indeed set for this Friday. ”The Defense Department is excited to welcome Elon Musk to the Pentagon on Friday. He was invited by Secretary (Pete) Hegseth and is just visiting,” maintained Pentagon officials. Washington, and China have had icy relations for years due to competing factors such as technology access, trade tariffs, TikTok, Taiwan, Hong Kong, human rights, and the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic.
