Ranya Rao jailed for 14 days: The Kannada actress Harshvardhini Ranya more commonly known as Ranya Rao was recently arrested in the gold smuggling scandal and has been sent to 14 days of judicial custody by a special court for economic crimes on Monday. This has evolved into a political scandal throughout all of Karnataka. People are constantly arguing… and then arguing some more. There is people watching the situation trying to guess who the unscrupulous characters in this mess may be and what role do they play.
Is Ranya Rao talking to the ministers?
On Monday, D K Shivakumar had to deny claims that two ministers were associated with Ranya Rao’s gold smuggling activity. . The Deputy Chief Minister Shivkumar also stated that the gold smuggling issue is in the hands of the central agencies, so the state government has no jurisdiction over it.

The Deputy CM added, “No ministers are involved in this, we do not know anything. This is all political gossip. The inquiry officer will perform his investigation as per the law. We have no relation to this.” He told reporters, “The central government is investigating, so they can do so.”
What is the entire issue about?
Ranya Rao, a Kannada actress who came into the limelight recently after she was arrested for gold smuggling, has made a number of allegations against the DRI officials. Reports suggest that she has claimed that the officials tortured her psychologically. Kannada actress Ranya Rao was apprehended at the Bengaluru airport on March 3, 2025 carrying 14.2 kg of gold which raises suspicion about her gold smuggling activities. Her gold smuggling case recently took a new twist.
According to DRI, the actress attempted to avoid paying duty of INR 4.8 crores by illegally smuggling gold from Dubai worth INR 14.2 crores.
