Demand to set up a parliamentary committee to investigate the issue of fake refugees in Nepal

Kathmandu : There has been a demand for the formation of a parliamentary committee to investigate the issue of fake refugees in Nepal. Ravi Lamichhane, president of the Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP), the fourth largest party in Parliament, on Wednesday demanded the formation of a parliamentary committee, raising doubts about the investigation being conducted by the police.

Lamichhane objected that powerful people involved in the refugee issue were not even called to testify. The names of former Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa Badal, Arju Deuba, wife of former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, Manju Khand, wife of former Home Minister Balkrishna Khand, are also linked in this case. However, they have not been investigated.

Nepal’s police chief Vasant Kunwar is also accused of involvement in the fake refugees case. In this matter, Home Minister Narayankaji Shrestha called him to the work room on Wednesday and discussed.

So far 16 people including former Deputy Prime Minister Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, former Home Minister Balkrishna Khand, former MP Indrajit Rai, Angatwa Sherpa, Government Secretary Teknarayan Pandey, Bhutanese refugee leader Teknath Rijal have been arrested in the refugee case in Nepal. 17 accused in the incident are on the absconding list.
