Suspense crime, Digital Desk : The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is set to revolutionize how businesses operate in the capital, announcing plans for a comprehensive new excise policy that will digitize the entire licensing process for health, trade, and veterinary services. The move, spearheaded by Mayor Rekha Gupta, is aimed at dismantling an outdated system, cutting through red tape, and creating a transparent, business-friendly environment.
For years, entrepreneurs and traders in Delhi have navigated a maze of cumbersome regulations and bureaucratic hurdles to obtain and renew necessary licenses. Mayor Gupta acknowledged that the current framework is not only inefficient but also fosters opportunities for corruption and harassment under the infamous "inspector raj."
The centerpiece of the proposed overhaul is a move to a fully digital system. Under the new policy, the entire lifecycle of a license—from application and fee payment to verification and final issuance—will be handled through an online portal. This shift is designed to minimize human intervention, ensuring that processes are completed in a time-bound and accountable manner.
"Our topmost priority is to simplify these procedures and boost the ease of doing business in Delhi," stated Mayor Gupta. She emphasized that the goal is to make the system so straightforward that business owners no longer feel harassed or burdened by a complex and opaque process.
Beyond just boosting commerce, the mayor stressed that the new policy will have "social security" at its core. This means that while making life easier for businesses, the MCD will also ensure that commercial activities do not negatively impact public order or create disturbances for residents. The policy will strike a careful balance between promoting economic activity and safeguarding community welfare.
Officials are currently in the process of drafting the new policy, which will be presented to the House for approval in the near future. The reform promises a modern, transparent, and balanced framework for commerce in the nation's capital.
