Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Kolkata – Akshay Kumar’s upcoming historical drama, "Kesari: Chapter 2," has landed in a major controversy before it has even finished production. An FIR (First Information Report) has been filed in Kolkata against the film's star, Akshay Kumar, and its makers, accusing them of gross historical distortion and misrepresentation of Bengal's contribution to India's freedom struggle.
The complaint, lodged by a citizen named Indranil Roy, takes direct aim at the film's portrayal of the iconic 1930 Chittagong Uprising and its leader, the revered revolutionary Surya Sen. According to the FIR, the film's promotional materials, including its poster, allegedly show Akshay Kumar, presumably playing Surya Sen, wearing a turban.
This has sparked outrage, as Surya Sen was a Bengali hero who, according to historical accounts and cultural norms, did not wear a turban. The complainant alleges that this is a deliberate "Punjabisation" of a Bengali icon, disrespecting his legacy and the culture of Bengal. Roy claims this "distortion of history" is an attempt to undermine Bengal's pivotal role in the fight for India's independence.
The FIR has been filed under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including those related to promoting enmity between different groups (153A) and acts intended to outrage religious feelings (295A). The complaint names Akshay Kumar, producer and director Anurag Singh, and others involved in the film.
This new film is intended as a follow-up to the 2019 blockbuster "Kesari," which depicted the Battle of Saragarhi and featured Sikh soldiers. The complainant fears that the filmmakers are incorrectly applying a similar visual identity to a completely different historical and cultural context.
Roy has stated that he will also be sending a legal notice to the film's producers, demanding a halt to the project to prevent the dissemination of what he calls "tampered history." The controversy puts the film under a sharp legal and public scanner, highlighting the sensitive nature of portraying regional heroes and historical events on screen.
