Delhi Assembly Election 2025: Congress has released its first list of candidates for the upcoming assembly elections in Delhi. In this list, the party has given tickets to 21 candidates. The party has fielded Haroon Yusuf from Ballimaran, Mudit Agarwal from Chandni Chowk, Delhi Congress President Devendra Yadav from Badli and Adarsh Shastri from Dwarka. New Delhi has become the hottest seat of these elections because Congress has given ticket to Sandeep Dixit from here against AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal. Let us tell you that Congress fought the Lok Sabha elections in alliance with Aam Aadmi Party, but in the assembly elections, both the parties are contesting separately.
The biggest contest is on New Delhi seat
The biggest contest of these elections has been set for the New Delhi assembly seat. Sandeep Dixit also has a chance to take revenge for the defeat of his late mother and former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit from Kejriwal. Let us tell you that in the Delhi assembly elections held in 2013, Arvind Kejriwal made a great debut in electoral politics by defeating the then Chief Minister Sheila Dixit. Since then, Arvind Kejriwal’s graph as a leader kept rising. However, a few months ago, he got embroiled in such controversies that he had to resign from the post of Chief Minister of Delhi.
‘Will contest elections as a strong opposition’
Let us tell you that the news had already come that the Central Election Committee of Congress i.e. CEC has approved the names of 21 candidates for the Delhi Assembly elections. After the CEC meeting, Congress’ Delhi in-charge Qazi Mohammad Nizamuddin had said that 21 seats were discussed and the names of the candidates were approved. He had said, ‘We will contest the elections as a strong opposition. Both the parties, Aam Aadmi Party and Bharatiya Janata Party make allegations and counter-allegations, but this will not happen in the coming times.’
‘Why won’t I contest the elections? I will definitely contest’
Meanwhile, state Congress Committee president Devendra Yadav had said, “All sections have been taken care of. Both experienced and young faces will be seen among the candidates.” When asked if he would contest the election himself, Yadav said, “Why won’t I contest? I will definitely contest. Along with me, there will be names of many senior leaders.” Let us tell you that the Delhi Assembly elections are likely to be held in February next year. He had also said that definitely a strong face will be seen against former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
