Former central banker Mark Carney, having just captured Canada's ruling Liberal Party in a stunning victory and poised to become the country’s next Prime Minister, met with Justin Trudeau on Monday wherein he noted the transfer of power would not take long.

On Sunday, Liberal members wagered on Carney as the frontrunner to challenge US President Donald Trump, who, besides threatening an annexation, is keen on stirring up a trade war and slapping punishing tariffs on the once trusted ally.

Carney will take over the role when Trudeau steps down, which is still prime minister for now.

“Carney is expected to be appointed on Thursday or Friday, The Globe and Mail said,” Carney remarked after meeting with the major. “That transition will be seamless and it will be quick.”

Speaking on his relationship with Trump, Carney opted not to answer on the basis that he was yet to assume office as Prime Minister. The two men could talk as soon as today, Politico noted.

Liberals say Carney will, in short order, announce the date of a federal election from a meeting with the Liberal parliamentary caucus.

“We know this is a crucial time for our country. We are united to serve Canadians,” Carney told reporters.

This comment has been woven from the input given above: The imposition of tariffs by trump on U.S. northern Canada has raised eyebrows across provinces forcing them to resort to taking out American alcohol from market while putting forth slogans aimed at buying Canadian products.

The US is set to impose a 25% tariff Canadian steel and aluminum on Wednesday. The Canadian government imposed a 25% tariff on 30 billion dollars C worth of US imports when Trump planned his tariff plan for Canada and Mexico. He suspended the tariffs for a month on goods covered by the agreement the US had with Canada and Mexico, a free trade agreement made by Trump, Trudeau, and the former Mexican president Enrique Pena Nieto in 2018.

“My government will keep our tarifs on until we are shown respect by America,” Carney said on Sunday.

The new Liberal government will most likely not last. If Carney, who does not have a seat in the Canadian parliament, refuses to call an election, he gives opportunity for his political rivals to try and defeat the government when it first goes back into session in late March.

The political opponents of Carney are the official opposition Conservatives, who stated that there was no difference between Trudeau and the new prime minister, who has spent considerable amount of time working in the finance sector.

“Carney will sell out the Canadian people for his own benefit. He has done it over and over again throughout his time as a corporate insider. The man is a joke,” said Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre to reporters.

KEEPING UP THE MOMENTUM

With 86\% of the party members’ votes, Carney won the Liberal leadership. The head of the liberals in Canada, which is equal to the Prime Minister functions, will be looking forward to Carney forming a government.

For many months, the conservatives were in the lead, in quite a significant way, over the Liberals.

Retaking the White House on January 20 brought back Trump’s policies. Tariffs and the prospect of annexation came alongside renewed support for the Liberals. As a result, the Liberals who constantly dominated the national politics were overtaken by the conservatives.

Now the challenge is to convince the citizens of Canada to vote for a party that has served for close to a decade which will be in the midst of multi-front trade wars.

“Not to dramatize it, but the problems are truly one of a kind in Canadian politics. If not, the post war era," explained Cameron Anderson. A professor in politics at Western University.

The first person to take over the Canadian Prime Minister position without any prior involvement with the election politics Carney, the ex-governor of the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England.
