Post

Marking a historic operational milestone in India's industrial manufacturing sector, Vedanta Aluminium Metal Limited (Vedanta Aluminium) has officially unveiled its production figures for the second quarter ended September 30, 2026, registering its highest-ever quarterly aluminium production of 649 kilotonnes (KT). Driven by the strategic commissioning of state-of-the-art smelting plants and debottlenecking across existing operational lines, the metals major achieved an aggregate aluminium output of 1,281 kilotonnes in the first half (H1) of the fiscal year. Alongside surging metal cast volumes, the company recorded an all-time high alumina production of 895 kilotonnes in Q2 (bringing H1 alumina totals to 1,721 kilotonnes), highlighting rapid stabilization at its refinery expansions while simultaneously securing statutory regulatory clearance to operationalize the strategic Sijimali Bauxite Block.

Global Milestone: BALCO Commissions Second Unit of 525 KT Smelter Facility

The operational surge was powered by a major engineering expansion at its flagship subsidiary:

Pioneering Smelting Infrastructure: Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO) successfully commissioned the second unit of its cutting-edge 525 kilotonne capacity smelting plant, which the company described as the first of its technological kind globally outside of China.

50% Expansion Capacity Operationalized: With this second unit energized, 50 percent of the proposed expansion capacity toward 435 kilotonnes per annum is now fully active, providing significant structural momentum to the firm's national production footprint.

Rapid Alumina Stabilization: The production of 895 KT alumina in Q2 and 1,721 KT in H1 underscores the progressive ramp-up and output stabilization across the company's expanded refining infrastructure.

Value-Added Expansion for Asian Automotive Markets and Sijimali Bauxite Green Light

Vedanta Aluminium has aligned its production mix to capitalize on high-margin commercial demand:

Catering to Asian Auto Demand: The industrial conglomerate strategically expanded the production capacity of its value-added products (VAP) over the past two quarters, meeting accelerating procurement volumes from the booming Asian automotive manufacturing sector and domestic industrial hubs.

Permission to Operate Sijimali Bauxite Block: In a crucial upstream development, the company confirmed receiving official statutory permission to operate the Sijimali Bauxite Block, securing raw material self-sufficiency and stabilizing captive supply chains for long-term refining viability.

Stock Market Movement: On the domestic bourses, shares of Vedanta Aluminium Metal Limited settled lower, closing down by 2.40 percent at ₹403 during the trading session on October 1.
