EPFO Interest Credited! 8.25% Annual Return Transferred to 34 Crore Accounts

Post

In major financial news for private sector employees, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has initiated the payout of annual interest for the financial year 2025-26. With the Central Government ratifying an interest rate of 8.25 per cent, millions of salaried workers nationwide have started receiving official SMS notifications confirming that the interest amount has been successfully deposited into their accounts.

Powered by EPFO's upgraded Centralised IT Enabled System (CITES) platform, the interest transfer process has been completed faster than in previous fiscal years. The automated system processes and distributes approximately ₹1.44 lakh crore directly to nearly 34 crore subscriber accounts in record time.

Why Updated EPF Balance May Take Time to Reflect

Although subscribers are receiving text alerts regarding the interest credit, the revised balance may not reflect immediately in every member’s online passbook. The EPFO administration clarified that ledger updates for millions of subscribers are rolled out in phases.

Members are advised not to panic if the updated numbers do not show up instantly on their dashboards, as the system is continuously processing queued ledger updates.

How to Check Your EPF Interest Balance Online and Offline

EPF subscribers can easily verify their credited interest and check their total provident fund balance through multiple online and offline channels:

EPFO Member Passbook Portal: Visit passbook.epfindia.gov.in and log in using your 12-digit Universal Account Number (UAN), password, and captcha. Navigate to the ‘View Passbook’ section to see detailed entries for employee contributions, employer contributions, and credited interest.

UMANG Mobile App: Open the UMANG app, select EPFO services, enter your UAN, verify with the OTP sent to your registered mobile number, and select ‘View Passbook’.

SMS Inquiry Service: Send an SMS reading EPFOHO UAN ENG to 7738299899 from your registered mobile number to receive a text summary of your account balance.

Missed Call Service: Give a missed call to 9966044425 from your UAN-linked mobile number to receive instant account details via SMS.

EPF Scheme Withdrawal Guidelines

Under the updated provisions of the EPF Scheme, subscribers are eligible to make partial withdrawals of up to 75 per cent of their total accumulated account balance for specified financial needs, home purchases, medical emergencies, or marriage expenses. The new digital platform also features automated pre-validation to accelerate claim approvals and streamline processing times for eligible members.
