As reigning Miss World Krystyna Pyszkova visited the Yadagirigutta Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple in Telangana, she expressed her joy, saying, “Visiting the YadagiriGutta temple brought me joy and peace of mind... And this is just the beginning! I can’t wait to see more of Telangana and its hidden gems!” The Czech beauty queen's visit to Telangana comes as the state prepares to host the 72nd Miss World pageant, set to take place from May 7 to 31, with the final event scheduled in Hyderabad.

However, the decision to host the pageant has sparked criticism from the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). The party has raised concerns about the financial burden of organizing such a high-profile event, particularly in the face of the state's mounting financial difficulties. According to the BRS, the Congress-led government, under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, has allocated Rs 200 crore for the pageant at a time when the state’s finances are in a precarious state.

BRS Opposition to Miss World: Financial Concerns Raised

The BRS, led by K T Rama Rao (KTR), questioned the government's priorities in allocating significant public funds for the beauty contest while the state faces urgent financial obligations. On Tuesday, the Telangana government presented a Rs 3.04 lakh crore budget for the fiscal year 2025-26. Despite this, BRS lawmakers protested in the assembly, highlighting the financial distress faced by farmers and demanding Rs 25,000 per acre compensation for affected farmers.

KTR took to X to express his frustration, posting, “Apparently spending ₹46 crore for Formula-E race in Hyderabad was wrong & will attract cases being filed, but spending ₹200 crore of public money to conduct Miss World, a beauty contest, is right!! What is this perverse logic? Can you please explain @RahulGandhi Ji?”

The Formula-E race, planned during the BRS regime, was canceled by the Congress government citing financial constraints, which KTR pointed out in his post.

Government’s Financial Struggles Amid Allegations of Mismanagement

In response to the ongoing financial concerns, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy recently acknowledged the state’s cash crunch and debt burden. He admitted that the government has struggled to pay employee salaries on time due to financial constraints. Reddy revealed that the state has been forced to secure a “hand loan” of Rs 4,000 crore from the Reserve Bank of India to meet salary payments.

Reddy explained the situation further, comparing it to villagers taking hand loans to meet urgent needs, stating, “We are forced to approach the Reserve Bank of India every month to take ₹4,000 crore towards ways and means advances to pay salaries to the employees on time.”

The chief minister assured state employees of full transparency regarding the financial position and asked for their understanding as the government navigates through these financial challenges.

Mixed Reactions to the Miss World Event

While the BRS continues to oppose the event due to financial concerns, the Miss World 2025 pageant promises to be a major international event for Telangana, showcasing the state’s culture and attracting global attention. However, with the state's pressing financial obligations, the allocation of such a significant sum for the pageant has raised questions about the government’s priorities.
