New Delhi. India’s Avani Lekhara has created history by winning gold at the Tokyo Paralympic Games. Avani topped the women’s 10m air rifle class SH1 in the shooting competition. Avani entered the finals of the event by finishing seventh among 21 shooters in the qualification round. He scored 621.7 after six shots in 60 series, which was enough to make it to the top eight shooters. This Indian shooter maintained consistency from start to finish and scored more than 10 consecutive scores.
Only the third Indian woman to win a medal at the Paralympic Games
Avani Lakhera is only the third woman to win a medal from India in the Paralympics. Bhavina Patel is only the second woman in the history of the Paralympic Games to win a medal from India. Deepa Malik is the first Indian woman to win a medal at the Paralympic Games. He won the silver medal at the Rio Paralympics 2016 in the shot put with a best throw of 4.61m. The part below his waist is paralyzed.
Avani Lakhera, the fourth Indian player to win gold in Paralympic Games, is only the fourth Indian player to win gold in Paralympic Games. India got its first gold in Paralympic Games by Murlikant Petkar in 1972 Paralympics. Petkar won the gold medal in the men’s 50m freestyle swimming event with a time of 37.33 seconds to set a world record. This was India’s first medal at the Paralympic Games. After this, Devendra Jhajharia gave India gold in the javelin throw in the Athens Olympics 2004 and Rio Olympics 2016. At the same time, Mariyappan Thangavelu won the gold medal in the Rio Games with a jump of 1.89 meters in the high jump event.
