Son River Water Level: 21 Gates of Indrapuri Barrage Open as Administration Maintains High Alert
The turbulent waters of the Son River finally began to recede on Wednesday, bringing a palpable sense of relief to villagers, agricultural communities, and farmers residing along the riverbanks in Aurangabad district. With the receding water levels, authorities have adjusted barrage operations accordingly, leaving only 21 out of the 69 total gates of the Indrapuri Barrage open. While the immediate threat posed by swelling floodwaters has eased, local authorities emphasize that continuous monitoring remains in place to ensure public safety across vulnerable low-lying settlements.
Water Resources Department Data and Barrage Discharge Statistics
According to official updates from the Water Resources Department recorded at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, the water level at the upper portion of the Indrapuri Barrage stood at 355 feet, while the lower portion was measured at 336 feet. Data indicated an ongoing upward flow trend, prompting the administration to advise continued caution. During this period, water discharge from the upper section of the barrage was recorded at 90,336 cusecs, with 80,511 cusecs being successfully released downstream. Furthermore, canal distribution recorded 5,001 cusecs flowing into the Patna Canal, 1,016 cusecs into the Western Son Level Canal, and 3,808 cusecs into the Son High Level Canal, with technical teams keeping a round-the-clock watch on shifting water dynamics.
Administration Issues Strict Advisory Urging Residents to Stay Away From Riverbanks
Despite the visible drop in water volume, the district administration has clarified that the danger has not completely passed. Barun Block Development Officer Narayan Rai noted that while the situation is under constant surveillance, villagers living in low-lying riparian zones must exercise extreme vigilance. The administration has issued a strict public appeal urging residents to avoid unnecessary visits to the riverbanks, keep livestock away from the flowing currents, and immediately report any emergency or unusual water level fluctuations to local authorities.
