Railways Announces Stoppage of 17 Express and MEMU Trains at Punpun Ghat and Anugrah Narayan Road

In a massive transit facilitation measure for hundreds of thousands of pilgrims arriving for the sacred Pitru Paksha rituals, Indian Railways has officially sanctioned temporary stoppages for 17 key express, passenger, and MEMU trains at Punpun Ghat Halt and Anugrah Narayan Road Ghat stations. Recognizing the spiritual importance of offering Pind Daan along the revered Punpun river before proceeding to Gaya, railway authorities have confirmed that each designated train will observe an operational two-minute halt at these stations starting September 25 through October 10, 2026. The special arrangement is engineered to prevent severe overcrowding at main junction hubs, streamline crowd management across the Danapur and Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya divisions, and provide hassle-free access to ghats and sacred rituals.
12 Trains Assigned Halts at Punpun Ghat: Intercity, Palamu, and Festival Specials Included
Under the operational schedule rolled out for the Danapur railway division, a total of 12 prominent train services will halt at Punpun Ghat to assist devotees arriving from across Bihar, Jharkhand, and neighboring northern states. The long-distance and intercity services scheduled for regular two-minute stoppages include the Patna-Buxar-Patna Intercity, the Patna-Barkakana-Patna Palamu Express, the Patna-Singrauli-Patna Express, and the Islampur-Hatia-Islampur Express. Additionally, key connecting routes such as the Patna-Thawe-Patna Express, the Raxaul-Varanasi-Raxaul Buddha Purnima Express, and the Chandigarh-Patna-Chandigarh Festival Special will make scheduled halts. To manage high-density regional commuter traffic, crucial local shuttles—including the Patna-Gaya-Patna MEMU, Patna-Nawada-Patna MEMU, and the Islampur-Patna-Islampur MEMU—have also been integrated into the temporary stop schedule.
5 Critical Stoppages at Anugrah Narayan Road: Extended Transit for Aurangabad and Gaya Pilgrims
To support the massive influx of pilgrims traversing through south Bihar toward the Magadh heartland, five significant passenger and express trains have been granted special temporary halts at Anugrah Narayan Road Ghat station in Aurangabad district. These scheduled stops encompass three major Gaya–Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction–Gaya MEMU passenger services, providing high-frequency connectivity along the Grand Chord route. Furthermore, the Dhanbad-Sasaram Intercity Express and the cross-border Asansol-Varanasi-Asansol MEMU passenger service will also pull up at the ghat station to facilitate seamless deboarding. Senior divisional authorities have directed operating departments, station directors, and Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel to enforce strict crowd-control parameters, passenger safety protocols, and uninterrupted lighting and drinking water amenities throughout the sixteen-day pilgrimage window.
